9 Holiday Recipes for Difficult Eaters

Cooking for the holidays when you have food restrictions or if you are hosting people who have food restrictions can be quite the challenge. Here are 9 of my favourite recipe ideas for the holidays to satisfy most restrictive diets.

1. Orange Cranberry Scones

There is nothing like coming home for the holidays and having a freshly baked batch of scones waiting for you when you wake up. They are a great staple for the holidays, but good vegan and gluten-free scone recipes are about as rare as unicorns.

2. Vegan All-Natural Holiday Pomegranate & Orange Grapefruit Gumdrops

Everyone loves a good gummy. I wanted to make this version as healthy and natural as possible while keeping true to the taste and texture of the gummies. However, it is hard to find good all-natural, vegan gummies recipes that reproduce the texture well as well as the original version.

3. Vegan Cherry Fruit Cake

Fruit cakes have a bad rap. Traditional fruit cakes you’ll often find strange tasting artificial candied fruits that, quite frankly, could do without. Other vegan fruit cake recipes I found to be dry and crumbly. This recipe redeems fruit cake. Its dense, moist & healthy.

4. Chai Poached Pears with Spicy Habanero Orange Sauce and Homemade Granola

This spicy recipe is perfect for the holidays. It is easily dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. It makes for an amazing dinner party dessert but it is also great the next day for a breakfast parfait or just as a snack as a if you pull back on the spicy honey toping.

5. Stuffed Eggplant and Tahini Sauce

This vegan dish is so delicious you’ll keep coming back for more. Lentils and brown rice give it a beautiful consistency and texture, and the sauce is so good you’ll want to lick your plate clean.

6. Vegan Meatless Mushroom Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

This dish is low carb, dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan. It is savory, sweet, and a little spicy and perfect for Christmas dinner or just as a side dish.

7. Muhammara Roasted Red Pepper Walnut Dip

Muhammad (Spiced Red Pepper and Walnut Dip)

Consider this colourful Syrian dish as an appetizer for the holidays. Full of protein & good fats, its great for Keto and low carb diets.

8. Creamy Vegan Cauliflower & Leek Soup

Potato leek is a classic, but I am carb-conscious, so I ditched the potato and used cauliflower instead, and it was awesome! It is smooth and creamy. You don’t even miss the potatoes. So, during the holidays, if you are looking for recipes that won’t make you gain lbs, this works great!

9. Sweet Vegan Butternut Squash Soup

Butternut Squash Soup

Entertaining guests for New Year’s is a challenge on its own and if you add food restrictions, either being vegan or gluten-free  to the mix makes it near to impossible. Here are my favourite recipes that are perfect for entertaining making for the best New Year’s celebrations.
